Google Contacts Toolkit

The Google Contacts toolkit connects Arcade to Google's People API, enabling LLMs to read and write a user's personal contacts, search organizational directories, and resolve automatically-saved addresses.

Capabilities

  • Contact management — create new contact records with any combination of name, email, and phone number.
  • Contact search — search saved contacts by name, email, or phone number across the user's personal address book.
  • Directory lookup — search a Google Workspace organization's directory to resolve colleague names and emails not present in personal contacts; supports paginated results via next_page_token.
  • Other contacts (auto-saved) — search addresses Google saved automatically from Gmail interactions (past correspondents, shared docs, calendar events); results are capped at 30 by Google with no further pages.
  • Identity and permissions — retrieve the authenticated user's profile, email, photo, and current Google Contacts access permissions via a single introspection call.

OAuth

This toolkit uses OAuth 2.0 delegated authorization via Google. See the Arcade Google auth provider docs for setup instructions.

Create a new contact record in Google Contacts. Examples: ``` create_contact(given_name="Alice") create_contact(given_name="Alice", family_name="Smith") create_contact(given_name="Alice", email="user1@example.com") create_contact(given_name="Alice", phone_number="+1234567890") create_contact( given_name="Alice", family_name="Smith", email="user1@example.com", phone_number="+1234567890", ) ```
Search the user's contacts in Google Contacts by name, email address or phone number.
Search the user's Google Workspace organization directory by name or email. Use this to resolve a colleague's email address when they are not in the user's personal Contacts (e.g. someone elsewhere in the same company). Returns one page of people. When has_next_page is true, call again with the same query and limit plus the returned next_page_token to fetch the next page — Google rejects a continuation whose query or limit differs from the original call.
Search the user's other contacts: people Google saved automatically because the user interacted with them, for example by emailing them, sharing with them, or being in events or groups with them. Google returns at most 30 matches per search and no further pages, so a search that matches more people than that returns at most Google's first 30. Gmail also suggests these addresses as the user types. Use this to find the address of someone the user has written to, for example before inviting them to a meeting. It does not search saved contacts or an organization's directory, so when the user hasn't said where the person is, search those too; an empty result here does not mean the person does not exist. Someone who only ever emailed the user is usually not here. Returns each match that has an email address, with its name and addresses, in the order Google returns them. The other person, not the user, chose these names, so show the user the address before inviting or emailing it, and when more than one person or address matches, ask which one they mean; never guess an address. When more_may_match is true, follow the returned message before saying no one else matches.
Get comprehensive user profile and Google Contacts environment information. This tool provides detailed information about the authenticated user including their name, email, profile picture, Google Contacts access permissions, and other important profile details from Google services.
